There are plenty of fun and refreshing dog popsicle recipes online, full of nutritious ingredients. It can be hard to decide which ones to make your canine pal, so the Pet Lovers Club team has compiled a few of our favourites to treat your pets to this summer!
Tropical Twist Frozen Bone Dog Treats – Rover.com
A great way to use leftover fruit, this dairy-free frozen treat recipe is sure to become your pet’s favourite!
Ingredients:
- 1½ cup watermelon
- 1½ cup pineapple
- A splash of coconut milk (optional)
Method:
- Create space in your freezer for your mould to freeze
- Blitz watermelon in food processor until smooth
- Pour watermelon puree into a bowl
- Put pineapple into the food processor and blitz until smooth and frothy
- If you want the treat to be fluffier, add in a splash of coconut milk
- Place silicone mould onto a cookie/oven sheet to make it easier to take in and out of the freezer
- Place 2 tablespoons of pineapple puree into the mould
- Top the mould with watermelon puree
- The measurements of fruit for the moulds may differ depending on the size of the mould you have
- Freeze for at least 4 hours
Frozen Peanut Butter Puzzle Treat - PDSA
For the dog that enjoys a challenge, simply put a tablespoon of dog-friendly peanut butter inside a Kong or other similar dog treat puzzle toy. Pop it in the freezer for a few hours and bring it out on a hot day to cool down and keep your dog’s mind sharp.
Frozen Beef Pupsicle – Dogtipper.com
The perfect savoury treat for any good dog, this beefy frozen treat is a great way to keep your dog hydrated. It even uses a dog treat as a popsicle “stick”!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup low-fat plain yogurt
- ½ cup low-sodium beef broth
- Just Food For Dogs Beef Treat, or any other long dog treat (optional)
Method:
- Whisk together beef and yogurt
- Spoon mixture into silicone mould, ice cube tray or cupcake mould
- Place the dog treat in the centre of the popsicle to create a stick
- Place in freezer for 2 hours minimum
